Would a 2004 Phaeton pretty much be the same car as an A8? Which one would you choose given similar price and mileage? If they are different, what are the differences?

Thanks

Sorry M Power, most of what you've said is incorrect! The Phaeton and A8 do not share a platform, they are different. The Audi is actually a little bit longer than the Phaeton, and is all aluminium, whereas the Phaeton is mostly steel. This means the VW is heavier than the A8, and as such gives poorer fuel economy and lower performance. The engines and drivetrains however are the same in both cars (with the exception of the W12 - Audi's version uses dry sump lubrication) so repair bills should be almost the same. Interior quality is very good on both cars, with the Audi slightly better in terms of fit and finish. Standard equipment is similar on both cars, as is the options list. The Phaeton and A8 are both 4 wheel drive cars. Audi uses the 'Quattro' system, and VW uses the same thing rebadged '4Motion'. The Phaeton is alot heavier than the A8, so absorbs bumps better and feels more solid in crosswinds.

Overall I'd choose the Audi, because it's almost the same as the VW (both are excellent cars) but gives better performance and fuel economy. In my eyes, the A8 is also a better looking car. However, the Phaeton drops in value very quickly indeed, so if buying used, the Phaeton would be a bargain compared to the Audi.

They are on the same platform so they have the same length and width specs but the audi has a bigger engine and a little bit better interior quality but the Vw has lower repair bills, a little bit better mpg and unlike the audi the vw is rear wheel drive. I would go with the audi more performance, better interior build and hell alot more head turns
