If you own a 05 A6 would you recomend it to others? I am interested in the 3.2L model.

When a manufacturer says "requires premium grade unleaded gasoline" its just a recommendation. Premium gas or any gas of a higher octane will burn cleaner and more efficient than "regular" 83 octane gas. If I you plan on buying an A6 or any premuim sports car for that matter, its worth spending the extra money at the pump in my opinion.

It is an EXCELLENT car!
The 3.2 engine delivers great output and performance.
I don't know about the availability in your country, but if I could, I'd choose a manual transmission, or if not, the DSG trans.
Of course you have to put premium gas! Everything related to the injection will last longer with premium gas.

As a general rule of thumb, I would say that anything over a 2.0-2.5 4 cyl should take premium gas.
