Hello all,

I have a 2004 A4 with 1.8T with 59K miles and I suddenly starting having low oil pressure warnings come on when coasting or deceling with RPMs in the 1700 - 2000 range. Took the car in, they measured the oil pressure and they said it is 10psi vs 18psi normal at idle and about 38psi at 3K RPMs. No sludge at all. They suspect the oil pump is going bad, but they don't really know.

Have any of you B6 1.8T owners had an issue with oil pumps failing or decreasing in performance at a relatively low car mileage? Seems strange to me that an oil pump, which is always fully lubricated, would be failing at such a low lifetime.

Thanks,

yess i have a 2002 a4 1.8T with 136k miles and about a week ago (2 days after i got it back from replacing the clutch) the oil pressure light came on and now my car is starting to sound like a diesel between 800-2500 rpm, also the check engine light came on, the light was for the camshaft being a little too overly advanced and i looked online and vw and audi 1.8Ts are notorious for oil pump tube failures along with timing chain tensioners. atm im replacing the valve cover gasket ($45 at napa) in hopes to stop the leak and hopefully get the oil pressure under control, but inevitably i think ill need a new oil pump, which is what i would say for you in your case
