High tech all the way – the new Audi A4 and A4 Avant
Jun 30, 2015 - 3:19 PM - by Audi Forum

The new-generation Audi A4 and A4 Avant are a fascinating synthesis of technology and esthetics. All the technology in the brand's bestselling family has been redeveloped so that it yet again defines the benchmark in the segment. During the development work, high priority was placed on the reduction of CO2 emissions. All technologies were focused on reducing drive resistance.

A good example is aerodynamics: The A4 Sedan has the best drag coefficient in its class at 0.23. The new models also have impressively low CO2 emissions of 95 grams per kilometer (152.9 grams per mile) for the A4 Sedan 2.0 TDI ultra with 110 kW (150 hp); the A4 Avant 2.0 TDI ultra emits 99 grams CO2 per km (159.3 g/mi). The 2.0 TFSI with 140 kW (190 hp) emits 109 g/km (175.4 g/mi) in the A4 Sedan ultra and 114 g/km (183.5 g/mi) in the A 4 Avant ultra. The most powerful engines are two TDI six-cylinder units with up to 200 kW (272 hp). Driver assistance systems and infotainment are of luxury quality. A new generation of four-cylinder TFSI engines with newly developed combustion methods sets benchmarks in terms of fuel consumption, emissions and performance for four-cylinder gasoline engines. The A4 Sedan and the A4 Avant will be launched this fall. ... [Read More]

Audi customer teams in the USA, Italy, France and Japan scored podium finishes this weekend in GT racing. Meanwhile, Audi welcomed many guests to its home DTM race at the Norisring.

Audi R8 LMS ultra finishes second and third in Italy
Audi Sport Team Italia celebrated its first two podium results of the season at the third Italian GT Championship race weekend at Imola: after starting from the third row, Dindo Capello and Emanuele Zonzini fought their way up to second place in the first race. Their team mates Andrea Amici and Marco Mapelli, who missed the first race due to a defect, also took a podium after finishing third in the second race.

CRP Racing takes podium finish at Road America
At the seventh round of the Pirelli World Challenge at Road America (USA), Mike Skeen took a podium finish in an Audi R8 LMS ultra for Audi customer team CRP Racing. Audi driver Jamie Green increases advantage in standings
Jun 28, 2015 - 2:45 PM - by Audi Forum

Jamie Green kept a cool head in difficult conditions on the Norisring. The Briton in his Hoffmann Group Audi RS5 DTM of Audi Sport Team Rosberg had started in third place on slicks on a wet track. In the first corner, his rivals forced him to run wide, which caused him to drop to twelfth place. But in the course of 46 race laps, the Briton recovered to seventh place. As a result, Green increased his advantage in the standings from 6 to 23 point

A heavy rain shower shortly before the start of the DTM’s fifth race of the season forced the teams into a tire gamble. Seven Audi drivers decided to use slicks. Only Mike Rockenfeller started on rain tires. A third of their competitors opted for grooved tires as well. Consequently, the early stage was marked by many position changes. Green lost eight places when a pack forced him to run wide in turn one. Just a few meters behind him, a rival turned Miguel Molina around in an attack. In addition, the Spaniard received a drive-through penalty for jump starting. As a result, the two drivers who had taken the best grid positions of all Audi drivers, lost opportunities. Green’s time came on a drying track. “This was an eventful race,” said the Briton. “I started on slicks. That worked out pretty well, even though it obviously cost time. Unfortunately, the others forced me to run wide in turn... [Read More]

Audi celebrates anniversary at Norisring
Jun 27, 2015 - 3:20 PM - by Audi Forum

Audi’s Norisring race weekend is marked by an anniversary. 25 years ago, Audi, on making its debut, instantly won the Nuremberg city street race for the first time, with Hans-Joachim Stuck at the wheel of the Audi V8 quattro back then. On the third DTM weekend, Mattias Ekström is competing in his Red Bull Audi RS5 DTM sporting the race car livery from those days. Autograph sessions, on-track drivesand a meeting of former campaigners round off a week full of emotions.

The Norisring week began for Mattias Ekström and Hans-Joachim Stuck with many hours of signing autographs. At the Audi Forum Ingolstadt, in the environment of the DTM press conference in Nuremberg, at the Audi Forum Neckarsulm and at Audi’s Heilbronn ‘Böllinger Höfe’ production site, the two race drivers signed posters and autograph cards. Several hundred visitors and Audi employees would not miss this opportunity. The two race cars were always on site as well. TV viewers can look forward to a special treat too, as Hans-Joachim Stuck got behind the wheel of the 25-year-old Audi V8 quattro for the track presentation of the Norisring to be aired on ‘Das Erste.’ Continue reading...

AUDI AG supports the German Team at Google Lunar XPRIZE
Jun 25, 2015 - 2:07 PM - by Audi Forum

Audi is taking off for the moon – together with the Part-Time Scientists. Nearly 45 years after NASA’s Apollo 17 completed the last manned mission to the moon, the cooperating partners have selected the old landing site of Apollo 17 as the new target. The group of German engineers in the Part-Time Scientists team is working within the Google Lunar XPRIZE competition to transport an unmanned rover onto the moon. Audi is supporting the Part-Time Scientists with its know-how in several fields of technology – from quattro all-wheel drive and lightweight construction to electric mobility and piloted driving.

“The concept of a privately financed mission to the moon is fascinating,” says Luca de Meo, Audi Board Member for Sales and Marketing. “And innovative ideas need supporters that promote them. We want to send a signal with our involvement with the Part‑Time Scientists and also motivate other partners to contribute their know‑how.” Luca de Meo is presenting the partnership today at the international innovation forum Cannes Innovation Days. DTM in the city: excitement in the Audi camp
Jun 24, 2015 - 4:03 PM - by Audi Forum

The Audi drivers will have to tackle their ‘homeround’ at the Norisring next weekend with plenty of additional weight on board of their Audi RS 5 DTM cars due to their successes in the first races of the 2015 season. Still, leader of the standings Jamie Green and runner-up Mattias Ekström are looking forward to the DTM’s only city street race.

“I think our colleagues (of Mercedes-Benz) from Stuttgart will be a hard nut to crack,” Ekström said on Wednesday at an Audi telephone press conference. “They’ve got a car that fits the track well. And they know exactly how they have to set it up there. But if we get our RS 5 DTM to fit to a T, then we’ll put them under. They’re not going to beat us by hitting just half the bull’s eye.” Continue reading...

‘Heavy’ task for Audi at the Norisring
Jun 22, 2015 - 4:03 PM - by Audi Forum

The ‘home round’ for the four rings at the Norisring is linked with an aim that will only be achievable with a ‘heavy’ effort. In Nuremberg – only some 90 kilometers away from the headquarters in Ingolstadt – the Audi squad is set on continuing its winning streak in the DTM and clinching its seventh consecutive triumph on June 27 and 28.

Audi has not been beaten in the internationally popular touring car racing series in nine months. The two Audi drivers Mattias Ekström (S) and Jamie Green (GB) have each won three of the last six DTM races for Audi. Now there is an event on the calendar that suits both of them particularly well: the Norisring. The leader of the drivers’ standings, Jamie Green, has already celebrated four victories in Nuremberg and finished as the runner-up last year. Mattias Ekström has frequently been on podium at the Norisring and in 2013 crossed the finish line in his Red Bull Audi RS 5 DTM in first place, but was retroactively taken out of the classification. Fantastic opportunity for autograph hunters: Mattias Ekström and DTM legend Hans-Joachim Stuck are on tour together over the coming days. Close at hand: Stuck’s Norisring winning car from 1990 and the current Red Bull Audi RS 5 DTM in one-off special white retro design.

Stuck and Ekström on tour

Mattias Ekström and Hans-Joachim Stuck go on a tour together before the Norisring weekend (27/28 June). The reason is the 25th anniversary of Audi’s debut win in the DTM race at the Norisring. On Monday (22 June), the two DTM Champions sign autographs from 11.00 in the Audi Forum Ingolstadt. After the DTM press conference in the Franken Center in Nuremberg, Stuck and Ekström will be available from 18.00 in the early evening for autographs and souvenir snap shots. Finally, on Tuesday, they are guests at the Audi Forum Neckarsulm from 11.00. Always on hand: the Audi V8 quattro, with which Hans-Joachim Stuck won at the Norisring in 1990, and the current Red Bull Audi RS 5 DTM in one-off special white retro design. Continue reading...

Audi to thrill DTM fans at the Norisring
Jun 18, 2015 - 1:20 PM - by Audi Forum

Spectators at the DTM races in Nuremberg on June 27 and 28 will get an unusual ‘special feature’ for the fans from Audi Sport: 25 years after Audi’s victory on the debut at the Norisring, Mattias Ekström will be running in an Audi RS 5 DTM sporting the colors of the Audi V8 quattro from 1990. This car will be seen in action at the Norisring as well.

Many DTM fans still rave about the races of the large, four-wheel drive sedan in the DTM with which Audi immediately won two consecutive championship titles in 1990 and 1991. With this car, on July 1, 1990 and with Hans-Joachim Stuck at the wheel, Audi also celebrated its first victory in its ‘home round’ at the Norisring. Continue reading...

Jun 17, 2015 - 2:32 PM - by Audi Forum

The Audi 2.5-liter TFSI engine is the “International Engine of the Year” for 2015 in the 2 to 2.5-liter category. The five-cylinder engine has now won the award for the sixth consecutive time.

An international panel of experts comprising 65 automotive journalists voted the 2.5 TFSI the winner in its class. The jury gave these reasons for its decision: “Reliable Audi quality and excellent tuning make this engine a genuine pleasure to drive. No synthetically designed sound could replace the passionate sound of this magnificent in-line five-cylinder engine.”

Board Member for Technical Development, Prof. Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg: “Five-cylinder engines have a long tradition at our company. They made Audi a sporty brand back in the 1980s. The 2.5 TFSI in the new Audi RS 3 Sportback is the epitome of automotive passion with its immense torque, voracious revving abilities and a very unique sound.
