Unhappy Transmission Replacement Question

I have a 2005.5 Audi A4 2.0T. My transmission just went out on it and the dealer is wanting 7k to fix (parts, labor, & tax). The car itself is in great shape with a few scratches here and there due to age etc. KBB value on the car is rougly $5,500. I'm looking at used transmissions and have a found a couple that are decently priced (anywhere from 3k - 4k) but my question is: Is it worth the it to fix the transmission or should I start looking for a new car?

In my AUDI A4 2005 CVT the PRND indicator began to blink on the dashboard and the car went into the safe mode. Trouble code is 1793. My mechanic told me that the TCM is failing . Do I have to go to the dealer for the replacement ? Maybe is there any service that can completely restore my unit?
